Fingerprinting FAQ

What is an ORI number?

An ORI number is an Originating Agency Identifier. It is a short code, usually nine characters, that tells the Florida Department of Law Enforcement which agency or profession should get your fingerprint results. Think of it as a routing number for your background check. Each licensing board or employer that needs Level 2 screening publishes its own ORI. For example, Board of Medicine applicants use EDOH2014Z, while DBPR real estate sales and brokers use FL920010Z. You do not invent an ORI. Your employer, licensing board, or application packet lists the correct one. Bring that exact code to the fingerprint appointment so results go to the right place.
